This video tutorial shows how to play the open E Chord on the Guitar. This is one of the essential chords that you want to learn and practice. There are many songs that use the E Chord, so watch the video and have fun!
The notes of the E chord are E, B, and G# (G Sharp).
An open chord is made up of the 1st, 3rd, and 5th notes of the scale. The name of the chord is defined by the root note of the chord. In this case, the first string in the chord (Open E) is the root note of the chord. See also, all guitar string notes for more overview
There are no muted strings with this chord, so when you play E Major, you will strum across all of the strings. You will hear a nice full sound when you strum this chord with the bottom E as the open string, and then one octave up E note on the third string second fret.
For another chord, see the B guitar chord.
